Through employing data transformation and quantization, we developed CoMRI, Compressed Multi-Resolution Index for searching in DNA sequence databases. Taking advantage of quantization, the index fits into a reasonable size of memory. Performance evaluations on Human Chromosome sequence data show that VBRs employed in this method save 80%-93% index storage size compared to MBRs and the search algorithm prunes almost all unnecessary VBRs.
